Using Appreciative Inquiry to Facilitate Transition in Complex Systems

A South African Case Study

The Anglican Church in post-apartheid South Africa can be seen as a microcosm of the larger socio-economic dynamics of transitioning to a fullyfledged democracy. The authors share a case study of how AI facilitated a leadership transition within the Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg that engaged 75 parishes and 45,000 members. The authors offer their conclusions for practitioners facilitating transition in other complex systems.
