How do you shift thinking in expert cultures away from deficit thinking to a discourse of possibility, when problem solving is the organization’s very purpose for being? Although seemingly contradictory, what I have discovered over the past ten years is that the same attributes that constitute successful, technically accurate thinking are the very things that allow a shift to occur, to open and elevate thinking, and make it possible for expert cultures to embrace an appreciative approach to organizational life.
