Announcing the February 2010 AI Practitioner

The Inside and Outside Worlds of an AI Practitioner

Guest editors:
Geoffrey Allan, Steve Loraine and Anne Radford

Our outside world can be that of a consultant, leader or manager while our inside one is where we develop ourselves and seek to be the best practitioner we can be. This issue highlights the way we evolve our practice and use AI with different models as well as handle personal challenges. The authors write about:

• Experiencing the success in combining fields such as Action Learning Sets and AI with powerful results; the inside and outside worlds of AI and Aikido; and making the complex simple by combining many models into one.

• 'Being willing to go into a place of deeper understanding' as an author described it. For one, it is about recognising the need to be a different kind of leader for a changing situation for another it is about reflecting on a situation with a colleague and being open to further meaning.

• 'Feeling the power of a passion or vocation. With their commitment to be the best they can be, authors draw new meaning from their current work as well as exploring new areas.

• Re-assessing existing fields from an appreciative perspective: Lean, Six Sigma and developments in neuroscience are just some of the fields that are explored by the authors.

In this Research Notes column edited by Lena Holmberg and Jan Reed the focus is appreciating AI Research from a practitioners' point of view. There are contributions from Bernard Mohr, Katja Finger Avenstam and Ann Shacklady-Smith.
